This is my story on my clinical opthal exam:

Alhamdulillah, pesakit saya seorang pembantu perubatan, Melayu lelaki. Communication should be no problem. Terasa lama clerk pak cik ini hanya ade corneal ulcer. Non-diabetic and on fundoscopy memang semua nampak normal. Setelah present the case to the examiners, both Chinese male doctors, one of them, Dr. Jonathon from Singapore, because he introduced himself to me. Kecuakan mula timbul apabila diagnosis patient saya adalah corneal ulcer, memang tepat. Saya cuak kerana saya tak sangka dapat case corneal ulcer. Maka bermulah sesi soal jawab:

1. What is corneal ulcer? Aku terdiam seketika lalu menjawabnya separuh jalan kerana lupa term.

2. How do you diagnose corneal ulcer? What is the use of staining?

3. what are the causes of corneal ulcer? What is the common causes of corneal ulcer among young teenagers like you?

4.What is the commonest virus in corneal ulcer?

5. How do you differentiate ulcer of the cornea and medical setting?

Maka di ajaknye aku duduk:

6. What is visual acuity? (sungguh malu, kerana aku hanya terdiam sbb lupa)

-dia pun bagi clue, maka aku meneruskan ayatnya, alhamdulillah dapatlah melengkapkan jawapan.

7. If the patient with visual acuity 5/36 , what do you understand?

8. And they show me a picture of fundoscopy, describe the picture for me.

Optic disc bla bla bla, vessels bla bla bla, hard exudates and cotton wools, macula has something wrong(dgn slambernya kerana tak tahu apa benda itu)

9. Show me where is the cotton wool? Here..NO it’s wrong(diorg ckp), oops, aku sengih malu. And how about the macula, show me. i show it to them, they just smile. Any comments for the macula, i just said it’s abnormal looking appearance(hahaha..ntahapeapela aku ni).. they smile again.

10.they start asking me, in what condition i always see this fundus?

11. What is the common tx of diabetic eye in eye clinic?

12. Tell me about laser tx? Blabla bla…and suddenly i told them, this picture is laser scar, pale, grey ciruclar looking area in retina. haha.. i just remembered and they smile again to me.

13. They gave me two pictures of glaucoma optic dics. Ask me to describe and compare.

14. Now, tell me about glaucoma.

15. what are the causes of glaucoma. I’m getting excited as i was really prepared for this question. When it turns to secondary causes of glaucoma, i just said all of causes i can rememberd and suddenly the bell ringing..

They said to me, you are saved by the bell…what? dah abis masa. macam baru je nak warm-up.

Masa aku keluar, aku adalah orang pertama keluar, memang pelikla, setelah 2 minit baru ada yang keluar. Mulala rasa depa dah memang tak suka kat I, nak fail kan I…hahaa..alhamdulillah aku pass!! Itu pun setelah seminggu tak tidur wa makan dengan tenang(bukan tak makan langsung ) menanti result.

Pengajaran dari opthal exam:

1. I still need to revise and practice my opthal eventhough its over for exam.

2. Practice make perfect.

3. Study group helps a lot.

4. Make doa, before and after the exam. Insya’Allah, Allah akan permudahkan urusan kita.
